David Lewiston Sharpe premiere to mark Reformation anniversary

2:02, 30th October 2017

The UK premiere of David Lewiston Sharpe’s Hier stehe ich will take place at Hampton Court Palace on 20 November.

Commissioned by Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal for HRH the Duchess of Gloucester to mark the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, the work sets a chorale text adapted by Luther from Isaiah 6: 1-4.

The first performance of the work was given on 19 October at the Schlosskirche in Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, where Martin Luther instigated the Reformation in 1517. At this concert a copy of the anthem, bound in Chapel Royal covers, was presented to the Mayor of Wittenberg.
