OUP signs two choral composers10:50, 8th January 2018
David Bednall and Sarah Quartel have signed long-term agreements with Oxford University Press.
Both composers already have a number of pieces published by OUP.
Bednall has an extensive freelance playing and conducting career, and is organist of the University of Bristol, sub-organist at Bristol Cathedral, and conducts the University Singers. He has performed extensively in the UK and abroad, but is most prominent as a composer; recordings of his works have received widespread critical acclaim.
Based between Ontario and Hawaii, Quartel’s works for youth and treble choirs in North America have been particularly successful. Her choral works are performed by children, youth, and adults throughout the world, and she is also involved in a number of educational projects.
Ben Selby, OUP’s director of music publishing, described Bednall as ‘one of today’s most innovative choral composers’ and praised Quartel’s ‘fresh, exciting style’, adding: ‘She is already highly successful in North America, and we are excited to represent her and her works around the globe.’
