Basel Composition Competition announces second edition for 2019

11:43, 9th April 2018

The Basel Composition Competition (BCC) has announced its second instalment will be held from 20 to 24 February 2019 under the directorship of Swiss composer Michael Jarrell.

The inaugural BCC took place in February 2017. The event was the brainchild of Basel music manager Christoph Müller, who, in collaboration with the Paul Sacher Foundation, wanted to attract the most exciting composers in the world to Basel and have their works premiered by the city’s orchestras.

Composers of all ages and nationalities can register for the competition here.

The nominated works will be performed at four public competition concerts by the Basel Chamber Orchestra, the Basel Symphony Orchestra and the Basel Sinfonietta. The prize money totals CHF 100,000 (around £74,000), and will be awarded to the three best compositions.
