The English Concert and Buxton International Festival announce partnership12:57, 19th May 2017
The English Concert is to become an associate orchestra at the Buxton International Festival.
The orchestra’s involvement with Buxton began when it performed Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas in 2015, and last year the two organisations co-produced a production of Handel’s Tamerlano.
The English Concert will present Mozart’s Lucio Silla as part of the 2017 Festival, which will also see the ensemble’s soloists perform a selection of the composer’s chamber works.
The ensemble has been involved in the festival’s Crazy Composers education project since 2016, presented in collaborated with the Children’s Company. The initiative introduces children to the music of composers such as Handel and Mozart, encouraging them to create their own compositions with the help of musicians from the orchestra, and culminates in a performance with a full orchestra and choir on the stage of Buxton Opera House.
