French label Indésens to launch in UK3:59, 6th February 2018
French classical labels Indésens and Calliope are to launch in the UK.
The two imprints will release a range of classical CDs in the UK on a regular monthly basis, effective April 2018.
Indésens Records focuses on instrumental music from the past two centuries by both famous and neglected composers from France and beyond. It has a special strand reserved for music for wind instruments, with particular emphasis on the ‘French school of wind’. Its roster includes Eric Aubier, Rachel Kolly D’Alba, Moraguès Wind Quintet, Magnifica Brass Quintet, Ramon Ortega, Anssi Kartuunen, Mikhaïl Rudy, Hervé Sellin and Hélène Tysman.
Calliope Records was founded in the 1970s by Jacques Le Calvé and was part-acquired by Indésens in 2011, which relaunched the label by re-releasing historical recordings. The label features recordings by performers including Quatuor Joachim, Reinhardt Goebel, André Navarra, Thierry Escaich, Mikhail Rudy and Pierre Réach. Recordings take place in locations known for their natural acoustics and booklet notes are written by leading musicologists.
The first batch of releases includes harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet in transcriptions of Mozart piano concertos, accompanied by the Varian Fry Quartet; pianist François Daudet and cellist David Louwerse in music by Pärt, Bridge and Britten; jazz-inspired interpretations of Debussy by pianist Hervé Sellin; and a 15-CD box set by trumpeter Eric Aubier.
Label head Benoit d’Hau said: ‘It has long since been my aim to be present in the UK and I am thrilled to be able to bring a range of wonderful recordings of music-making of the highest quality to a brand-new, sophisticated audience.’
