Julius Drake and Ian Bostridge mark 25 years of collaboration5:07, 11th October 2017
Julius Drake and Ian Bostridge will celebrate 25 years of working together with a special recital at Middle Temple Hall, London on 29 November.
Drake and Bostridge will be joined by the Piatti String Quartet for a programme including Purcell’s The Queen’s Epicedium, Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge and the Holy Sonnets of John Donne by Benjamin Britten.
Bostridge and Drake were introduced to each other in 1992 by the concert promoter Heinz Liebrecht, who was putting together a performance On Wenlock Edge in Holkham Hall, Norfolk. The concert was a success, and the tenor and pianist immediately became firm friends.
Bostridge and Drake have since performed together countless times and recorded a number of discs, including two volumes of Schubert songs, Schumann’s Dichterliebe and the Britten Canticles.
Julius Drake said: ‘My partnership with Ian Bostridge has been one of the most rewarding, challenging and fulfilling experiences of my musical life. I will always be grateful to the inspired promoter, Heinz Liebrecht, for introducing us and initiating that first concert.’
Ian Bostridge added: ‘Working with Julius Drake has been one of the great joys and inspirations of my life. Here’s to another quarter century!’
Tickets cost £5-£45. The performance will be recorded by the BBC for broadcast at a later date.
