Philharmonia announces 2017/18 Composers’ Academy intake

12:33, 17th July 2017

The Philharmonia Orchestra has announced its 2017/18 Composers’ Academy intake, which offers the opportunity for three talented emerging composers to write an original chamber work for a Philharmonia ensemble each year.

Freya Waley-Cohen, Eugene Birman and Austin Leung will write new works for chamber orchestra, which will be performed by an ensemble of Philharmonia musicians at a Music of Today concert at the Royal Festival Hall in 2017/18.

The composers will receive guidance from Unsuk Chin, and will participate in specially curated seminars, masterclasses, instrument exploration sessions and a ‘works in progress’ workshop.
