Programme for second Cecil Aronowitz Viola Competition announced5:05, 2nd October 2017
The second Cecil Aronowitz Viola Competition will take place between 18 and 24 November 2017 in the new Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, part of Birmingham City University.
The winner will be awarded £5,000 along with a recording contract and a prize in collaboration with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
A series of events have been arranged to run alongside the competition, including masterclasses and recitals from jury members.
Highlights include masterclasses and recitals by Thomas Riebl, Robin Ireland and Timothy Ridout; a lecture-recital on the Brahms viola sonatas by Bruno Giuranna; workshops from Lucy Nolan (Eblana String Trio) and Gary Pomeroy (Heath String Quartet); and talks from Florian Leonhard (on violin authentication) and Nicola Aronowitz (on Cecil Aronowitz).
