St John’s Smith Square announces 12-hour music marathon9:52, 12th September 2017
St John’s Smith Square will host a free 12-hour music marathon as part of Open House London Weekend.
The Grade I venue will host 12 hours of performances, open rehearsals and workshops between 10am and 10pm on 16 September.
Pianists performing include Yuki Negishi, Frances Wilson, Késia Decoté and Niamh Beddy, who will continue her collaboration with dancer and choreographer Alice Weber. Other solo performers include classical guitarist Emmanuel Sowicz, percussionist Beibei Wang and violist Katherine Clarke.
The Wall of Sound Singing Ensemble will present traditional folk arrangements, and the Iken Scholars – who performed at the London International A Cappella Choral Competition 2017 – will offer a programme of Lobo, Scarlatti, and Lotti.
The day will launch with a performance from the Eos Trio, and will close with experimental music collective Echoshed performing their new piece Dialogues, specially written for the occasion and utilising different spaces around the building.
This year’s Music Marathon will also feature short talks on the history and architecture of St John’s Smith Square from artistic director Richard Heason.
