Sally Knights worked in further education for 20 years, founding a successful classics and archaeology department, and organising numerous study tours and site visits. She now teaches classics at Redland High School for Girls in Bristol. She is involved in promoting classics on a local and national level and is a coursework adviser and moderator at A level. She is aware of the needs of the wide range of students for whom classical civilisation opens up a new world – 16-year-olds, graduates and adult returners. Having taught all aspects of the subject – literary, archaeological, artistic and historical – she is familiar with the range of skills and breadth of knowledge students need to acquire to ensure success in examinations.

Alan Potter taught for 24 years at Shrewsbury Sixth Form College where he ran a large and successful classics department. As study support co-ordinator for the college, he became particularly interested in helping students to develop a range of techniques to be successful in their learning. Alan is a very experienced examiner at both GCSE and A level, and for many years he has been chief examiner in classical civilisation.

Steve Woodward took a degree in classics at Leeds University and did postgraduate research in the drama department of Bristol University before teaching in a range of schools and ultimately running the classical studies department at Dinnington Comprehensive School for 22 years. He went on to gain the ADB (Ed) qualification in teaching drama and a Ph.D at Sheffield University on the uses of myth and drama in education. He currently works for the Open University as an associate lecturer and consultant, having also published papers on Greek drama for their classical studies reception of texts unit. He has worked as a senior examiner for 28 years for different exam boards.
