Andrew Litton: a tribute to Oscar Peterson
World-renowned conductor Andrew Litton swapped his baton for a grand piano on 2 June 2014 in a special tribute concert to the legendary jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. Performing transcriptions of Peterson’s own arrangements of jazz greats for piano, Andrew showcased ten dazzlingly virtuosic favourites including ‘A Child is Born’, ‘Round Midnight’ and ‘Lulu’s Back in Town’ which are available to hear below. The concert marked the launch of Andrew’s latest CD release, A Tribute to Oscar Peterson.

On 3 April 2014, Julian Lloyd Webber, along with wife Jiaxin and accompanist Pam Chowhan, launched Rhinegold LIVE with music from their recent Tale of Two Cellos tour. Just a few weeks later Julian announced his retirement from performance due to a herniated disc in his neck.
The four videos from our inaugural recital represent Julian’s last ever filmed performance as a cellist. As part of Rhinegold LIVE’s commitment to offering accessible and affordable music to all, we are honoured to make these historic recordings available to view below:
Summer Sunset, by Roger Quilter
Moon Silver, by William Lloyd Webber
Prelude from ‘The Gadfly’, by Dmitri Shostakovich
All I Have to Do Is Dream, The Everly Brothers
Listen to our Q&A with Julian Lloyd Webber, Jiaxin Lloyd Webber and Pam Chowhan, conducted by Keith Clarke, consultant editor of Classical Music magazine where the artists discuss stories from their latest tour, William Lloyd Webber’s centenary year, what it’s like to work as a husband and wife team, the differences between playing classical and rock, Julian’s passion for Leyton Orient and the importance of music education.
"In the present climate of music cut backs, it’s refreshing to be able to enjoy live music in a lovely, historical setting performed by first class artists with a pre-concert drink, all for free. Rhinegold has set a high benchmark"

"I'm very rarely moved to tears by music, but the Prelude from 'The Gadfly' was absolutely sublime, as was Piazzolla's 'The Little Beggar Boy (Chiquilin de Bachin)'... I glanced at the faces of a few other audience members during the concert and their expressions seemed to reflect my thoughts: that we were all very privileged that evening to witness such a rare and special performance"

"Rhinegold Live is an intriguing project and one which, I think, will develop. The planned concerts for the remainder this year are all certainly well worth investigating."
