The Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music has announced a revision to the top level of its executive management structure.
In 2005 Trinity College of Music and Laban merged to become Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Derek Aviss from Trinity and Anthony Bowne from Laban were appointed to lead their respective disciplines and, from 2006, to become joint principals of the new institution.
A statement from the conservatoire said: ‘After five years the board has considered and accepted a proposal from the joint principals that their roles should now be further refined and re-defined.
'At its meeting on 28 January, the board of governors unanimously confirmed Anthony Bowne as sole principal and accounting officer from September 2010. Derek Aviss, with the title of executive director, will take the lead in defined strategic areas of institutional development, with a view to equipping Trinity Laban to take full advantage of the opportunities, and confidently face the challenges, presented by the rapidly changing world of higher education and the globalisation of our art forms.’
Current deputy director of Laban Mirella Bartrip will become director of dance and, in advance of the retirement of Trinity’s deputy principal John Heighway in July 2010, the conservatoire will be conducting an international search to appoint a new director of music.
