IT’S ALL TOO EASY to base everything around anniversaries these days. Though perhaps not in the same league as 2009, 2010 also has its fair share: Cherubini (250), Pergolesi, W F Bach and Thomas Arne (300), Alessandro Scarlatti, Campra and Fux (350), Gesualdo and Gombert (450), Andrea Gabrieli and Clemens non Papa (500) plus numerous other less well-known names. Expect to hear them cropping up in concerts over the year. It is also, and this gives us an idea of just how highly it is regarded, the 400th anniversary of Monteverdi’s 1610 Vespers. Performances are planned throughout the country – keep an eye on our listings section to find out performances in your area...
