Modartt releases Model B grand piano for Pianoteq

27 January 2016

Modartt has released Model B grand piano for Pianoteq.

The instrument is modelled after a Steinway B grand piano from Hamburg selected by Martha Argerich in 2014 for its musicality.

The Steinway B is now the best selling Steinway grand piano. It has much of the concert grand piano sound of a Steinway D, but is smaller and better suited for recording studios and mid-sized recital venues.

The virtual grand piano Model B for Pianoteq was carefully designed to reproduce the finest sound characteristics of the selected Steinway B instrument. Subtle refinements of the physical modelling were made, resulting in a noticeably clear tone and astounding dynamics.

The Model B Grand Piano is provided as an instrument pack for 49€/$59, and requires the latest update (5.5) of Pianoteq. The instrument is available for evaluation in the free trial version of Pianoteq, which can be downloaded from www.pianoteq.com, where you can also listen to audio samples.

Applications open for the Rhinegold Charity Fund

18 January 2016

Charities operating within the music sector are invited to submit their applications for the Rhinegold Charity Fund 2016/17.

The successful charity will receive £10,000 to spend on advertising across Rhinegold's portfolio of classical music publications, websites and services.

They will also receive account management support on aspects of marketing and design from Rhinegold.

The scheme supports the work of charities that might not have the resources necessary to support a large advertising campaign on their own, giving them the opportunity to promote their cause to a large international readership.

Since its launch in 2013, the number of applications to the fund has doubled annually. The 2015 fund was awarded to two charities: Young Classical Artists Trust and Live Music Now.

Charities wishing to apply should complete the online form by 29 February, with the selected charity to be announced in March.

The Pianist of Willesden Lane to receive UK premiere

8 January 2016

The Pianist of Willesden Lane will receive its UK premiere on 20 January at the St James Theatre, London.

The play, which features live music, tells the true story of Lisa Jura, a young Jewish pianist whose dreams of a concert debut in Vienna's Musikverein are shattered by the rise of the Nazi regime.

It is based on The Children of Willesden Lane - Beyond the Kindertransport: A Memoir of Music, Love and Survival by Lee Cohen and Mona Golabek.

The story is that of Golabek's own mother, and she performs words and music in this one-woman show.

The play has already sold out runs in New York, Chicago, Boston, Berkeley, Los Angeles, and San Diego. New York Times reviewer Charles Isherwood selected it as his critics' pick.

The Pianist of Willesden Lane runs until 27 February. Tickets are from £22.50 upwards.
