Classic FM dedicates week to National Children’s Orchestra

10:55, 24th June 2016

The National Children’s Orchestra will be featured on Classic FM next week, from 27 June, with the station ‘celebrating the work, musicians, and achievements of this exceptional organisation through a mixture of on-air and online content’.

Wednesday evening’s Full Works Concert will feature a performance from a recent NCO concert at the Anvil, Basingstoke, and throughout the week interviews conducted by current orchestra members with NCO alumni and supporters will appear on the Classic FM website.

This will coincide with the opening of auditions for 2017 and of ticket sales for the NCO’s summer programme, which features concerts in Preston, Leeds and Birmingham, as well as the launch of a new website. The NCO is Classic FM’s official ‘children’s orchestra’.

NCO chairman Peter Stark said: ‘We are thrilled that our friends at Classic FM have recognised the absolutely vital role the NCO plays in nurturing the nation’s best young orchestral musicians. The significant coverage during this week will provide a real boost for our work and the brilliance of our players and tutors, and we look forward to NCO orchestras moving centre stage with thousands of new fans who are sure to be astounded by the exceptional talent on display.’

Classic FM presenter Aled Jones will be hosting the station’s morning show throughout the week: ‘All of us at Classic FM care deeply about nurturing and promoting the next generation of musical talent. I can’t wait to shine the spotlight on these brilliant young musicians and I’m looking forward to hearing many of them interview professional performers, who were also once members of the NCO.’
