Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, has been announced as Birmingham Conservatoire’s first Royal Patron.

Prince Edward’s decision to become a royal patron of Birmingham Conservatoire reflects his interest in the arts. He regularly attends concerts and theatre shows associated with his patronages.

Professor Julian Lloyd Webber, principal of Birmingham Conservatoire, described Prince Edward’s patronage as ‘an enormous accolade’.

The conservatoire is preparing to move to a new £56m home in 2017, which Birmingham City University vice-chancellor Professor Cliff Allan anticipates will make it ‘a new cultural landmark’.
