Merton on the March project launched

12:47, 31st October 2017

The Wimbledon International Music Festival is collaborating with the Merton Music Foundation on a new music education project, Merton on the March, which will run until March 2018.

The project will be available to children from all 56 primary and special schools in the borough of Merton, and will take the form of a ‘musical relay’ of songs between schools. It will culminate in a huge, joint childrens’ march to the Mayor of Merton in March 2018.

Children aged between six and 11 from Merton Young Voices and Holy Trinity Primary School are learning a new work and arrangements of three WWI songs by young composer Adam Saunders, and will give the premiere performances as part of the opening concert of Wimbledon International Music Festival on 11 November.

The concert will also feature the London premiere of an oratorio based on the war poems of Robert Graves, alongside Sonoro choir and the Philharmonia Orchestra.
