RCM announces BAME scholarships12:12, 13th July 2017
The Royal College of Music (RCM) is to fund three full scholarships for BAME students in 2018/19.
The scholarships will be available for individuals wishing to undertake the conservatoire’s Bachelor of Music (BMus) course, and will be awarded on merit. They will be up to the value of full fees (currently £9,250 a year) and can be used either to cover tuition fees or to help with living costs.
All UK BAME applicants will automatically be considered for these scholarships when they apply for the RCM BMus via UCAS Conservatoires, declaring their ethnicity.
Applications open on 19 July and the deadline to apply for the BMus course starting in 2018/19 is 2 October.
‘We know that students from under-represented groups sometimes find finances to be the biggest barrier to entry when making decisions about higher education,’ said Colin Lawson, director of the RCM. ‘We believe it is imperative to provide access to excellence for all talented students, regardless of means, and I am delighted that we are able to offer three scholarships covering up to full fees.’
