Richard Gaddes receives honorary fellowship from Trinity Laban

1:18, 14th November 2017

Trinity Laban has presented an honorary fellowship to alumnus Richard Gaddes, in recognition of his 50-year career in opera in the USA.

The citation praised Gaddes’ ‘exceptional contribution to musical life in the USA and beyond’, continuing: ‘Richard’s gift for spotting young talent, his commitment in championing young singers and building diverse audiences for opera, and his confidence in programming adventurous repertoire are all attributes which we celebrate today, recognition him as a beacon of the spirit of Trinity Laban in the USA.’

Gaddes said: ‘Life takes strange twists and turns, and it would not be an exaggeration to say at Trinity College of Music was directly responsible for my career in opera, and for my coming to America in the first place.  But more important, it was the four years studying that equipped me with the musical background I needed, and fine-tuned my ear for what lay ahead in my career.’
