Wexford Festival Opera artistic director David Agler has revealed the winners of three artistic bursaries following the company’s 66th season.
British baritone Thomas Hopkinson, who performed in Medea/Rigoletto at this year’s festival, won the Aria Friends’ Bursary, and Romanian soprano Ioana Pipelea (Margherita/Risurrezione) received the Gerard Arnhold Award.
Irish baritone Cormac Lawlor (Medea/Margherita/Risurrezione/Dubliners) was named as the inaugural recipient of the Liam Healy Bursary. This award was founded this year by Eithne Healy, in memory of her late husband, the former chair of the Wexford Festival Foundation. This bursary is intended to encourage the career development of young Irish artists.
The 67th Wexford Festival Opera, will run over 17 days, beginning Friday, 19 October and running until Sunday, 4 November 2018.
