Young singers receive Garsington Opera awards

12:37, 6th November 2017

Garsington Opera has named tenor Jack Swanson and soprano Alison Rose as the recipients of this year’s Leonard Ingrams Foundation awards.

Named after the company’s founder, the awards support, encourage and nurture the best young artists involved in the creative process of bringing opera to the stage.

Garsington has presented two further prizes to promising young artists: the Helen Clarke Award to bass-baritone Jack Sandison and the Simon Sandbach Award to soprano Lara Marie Müller. These awards are made in recognition of both artists’ talent, musical skill and contribution to the 2017 Garsington Opera productions.

Rose, Sandison and  Müller were part of the Alvarez Young Artists’ Programme, which aims to provide those selected with training and performance opportunities. Participants perform on stage in the chorus, in small roles and understudy major roles, working alongside principal artists. Further opportunities are given to participate in masterclasses, training seminars on professional development and public recitals.
