Editor-in-Chief, Opera Now and Associate Editor, International Piano Department: Editorial Biography

Ash has been Editor-in-Chief of Opera Now magazine since 1997.

Ash was born in Mumbai, India, and raised in Hong Kong, Bangkok and the United Kingdom. He combined a degree in English with a choral scholarship at New College, Oxford.

His career in journalism began in Hong Kong where he worked on the arts and media desk of the South China Morning Post and as a presenter for Radio Television Hong Kong’s culture channel. He was Founding Editor of The Singer magazine and Deputy Editor of Classical Music magazine before taking up his post on Opera Now magazine.

As well as his work as a journalist and broadcaster, Ash is a trustee of a number of arts organisations including the Iford Opera Festival near Bath and the Frome Festival in Somerset. He has served on the judging panel of various singing competitions, including the Les Azuriales Competition in Nice and the Vienna-based Belvedere Competition. He has been a trustee of Second Movement since 2006.

Ash is also a founder-partner in C Sharp, an arts consultancy that specialises in cultural exchange between the UK and India.
