Angels in America returns to Broadway

12:00, 23rd October 2017

The National Theatre (NT) has announced that Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes will return to Broadway for the first time since it opened in 1993. Tony Kushner’s play was this year restaged and premiered at the NT, becoming the fastest selling production in its history.

Angels in America will star Tony Award-winner Nathan Lane and Academy Award and Tony Award nominee Andrew Garfield as Louis and Prior as well as Susan Brown, Denise Gough, Amanda Lawrence, James McArdle and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. Further casting will soon be announced.

‘Tony Kushner created one of the most indelible literary works of our age,’ said NT director Rufus Norris and producers Tim Levy and Jordan Roth in a joint statement. ‘It has been 25 years since its original Broadway production, and it is now time for an entirely new generation to be mesmerised, stirred and astonished by its humour, poetry and power at a time that feels more relevant now than ever.’

Beginning on 23 February 2018, Angels in America will have a strictly limited run at the Neil Simon Theatre in Midtown Manhattan, opening officially on 21 March.
