Organist, conductor and composer Malcolm Archer has been confirmed as Sing for Pleasure’s (SfP) masterclass guest at its first 2020 training weekend in February.

The training programme, which runs from 1-2 February in London, includes the Choral Conducting Masterclass, which will see SfP tutor and trustee Catherine Beddison work with students on an a cappella repertoire on the Saturday. This will then be followed by Archer’s masterclass on the Sunday, which covers a range of challenging repertoire.

Aimed at conductors who are already working at an Advanced level, the Choral Conducting Masterclass is part of a wider programme of events run by SfP over the weekend, which includes the Orchestral Conducting Course and the Musicianship for Singers Course.

SfP’s Chief Executive and Head of Conductor Training Manvinder Rattan said, ‘Malcolm has enjoyed a truly distinguished career for many years in church music, organ recitals, composing, choral and orchestral conducting … We’re extremely privileged to have him as our guest tutor this year.’

Archer was organist and director of music at Bristol, Wells and St Paul’s Cathedrals, as well as director of chapel music at Winchester College.
