Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir announces debut album

5:51, 13th November 2017

Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir will release its debut album on 1 December.

Christmas with Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir (Decca Records) features traditional Christmas carols and the world premiere recording of ‘All Is Still’, a new composition by composer Rebecca Dale.

Founded in 2014, the Girls’ Choir of Canterbury Cathedral sings at Evensong in the Cathedral twice every month, frequently with the lay clerks. In addition to its liturgical duties, the choir has performed at numerous events of significance in the Cathedral, including a service to mark the 20th anniversary of the ordination of women priests and consecration of the Bishop of Europe.

Anna Barry, who produced the album, described it as ‘an important moment in recording history’, adding: ‘It is an important moment in recording history so I’m delighted to be bringing these beautiful young voices together on a new album which captures the modern sound of Canterbury Cathedral at Christmas time.’
