JAM on the Marsh features two Paul Mealor premieres

12:05, 21st June 2016

The 2016 edition of JAM on the Marsh features the premieres of two new works by Paul Mealor.

The BBC Singers will give the premiere of To Seek Where Shadows Are, a setting of three poems by Christina Rossetti, on 8 July.

The London Mozart Players and Mousai Singers will give the premiere performance of The Shadows of War – the festival commission for JAM on the Marsh 2016 – on 14 July.

The work, which intersperses movements of a mass with settings of poems by Grahame Davies, commemorates the centenary of the Battle of the Somme. According to Mealor, ‘the choir will represent all those who made, and are making, the sacrifice, accompanied by the subtle, gentle purity of the strings, as is fitting with a meditation.’

Both concerts will take place at 7pm at St Nicholas Church, New Romney, Kent.
