Joseph Flummerfelt dies at 8211:57, 4th March 2019
Joseph Flummerfelt, choral conductor and founder of Spoleto Festival USA, has died aged 82.
Flummerfelt helped to establish Spoleto Festival and retired from his post as director of choral activities in 2013 after 36 years. He also led the world-renowned Westminster Choir for more than 30 years.
From 1971 until 1993, Flummerfelt served as chorus master of the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy.
He founded the New York Choral Artists in 1979 and became chorus master for the New York Philharmonic, making his conducting debut with them in 1988.
