New resources for A Choir in Every Care Home2:27, 22nd September 2017
Live Music Now has relaunched A Choir in Every Care Home with a new set of free resources.
Videos and tool-kits to help more care homes and musicians to perform more, higher quality singing are available online.
Created to inspire and support care homes to engage with music, A Choir in Every Care Home is a collaboration between 35 national organisations from areas including adult social care, music and academic research.
Over the past two years, these organisations have worked together to investigate how singing and music can benefit older people and their carers, and find examples of best practice.
They have also surveyed over 400 care home staff and musicians and conducted the largest ever review of academic research about music for older people, the results of which are also available on the project’s website.
‘Later life should still be a time of exploration, creativity and happiness, even whilst living with dementia,’ said Consortium leader Evan Dawson of Live Music Now. ‘The evidence we have seen demonstrates that music is an incredibly effective tool to achieve this, if it is done well. It needn’t be expensive, and everyone can benefit, including care staff and families. There’s nothing else like it!’
