ORA announces musical advent calendar

12:16, 2nd November 2017

ORA is to mark the festive season with a musical advent calendar.

Available on the ensemble’s website, the ORA Advent Calendar will see a new door open each day, allowing listeners access to a daily contemporary carol recorded by the group.

As the month progresses, more and more doors will be opened until eventually the full collection is revealed: a total of 24 tracks.

The collection includes carols by Sally Beamish, Richard Allain, Morten Lauridsen, Cecilia McDowall and Arvo Pärt, and to bookend the calendar, ORA has commissioned works from John Rutter and Debbie Wiseman for 1 and 24 December respectively.

ORA founder and artistic director Suzi Digby said: ‘Choral music is for life, not just for Christmas, and this is too good an opportunity to miss – 24 days to introduce and remind listeners of the stunning range of contemporary carols out there.  We hope these will be the soundtrack of Christmases hence.’

The entire album will be available to download and stream from Harmonia Mundi at the end of the year.
