2:06, 4th January 2019

The Royal College of Organists has recognised the achievements of two organists by awards them its highest honour, the RCO Medal.

Hans Fagius and Nicholas Kynaston will both receive their awards for distinguished achievements in organ playing at the college’s Conferment of Diplomas at Southwark Cathedral in March.

RCO president Martin Baker said that it was ‘an honour for the college’, and that this year’s honorands ‘have enjoyed international acclaim as performing and recording artists for many years.’

Hans Fagius specialises in the interpretation of Baroque and Romantic music, and has performed extensively throughout Europe, Australia and North America.

Nicolas Kynaston was a student of Fernando Germani and Ralph Downes. He was appointed organist of Westminster Cathedral at the age of 19, and was the first British organist to be invited to sit on the Grand Prix de Chartres.
