Ruth Sellar wins Sir David Willcocks Carol Competition

12:04, 27th November 2018

Ruth Sellar, a graduate from Kings College London, has won the Sir David Willcocks Carol Competition.

Her carol, entitled ‘The Snow Lies Thick’, will be performed by the Bach Choir, conducted by David Hill, on 19 December at Cadogan Hall.

Hill described the carol as ‘very well-written; it was the stand-out carol and a very worthy winner. We look forward very much to performing it.’

Sellar has previously won Classic FM’s ‘A carol for Christmas’ competition with ‘Patapan’, which has since been performed by King’s College, Cambridge and published by Novello.

The competition was judged by David Hill, composer and conductor Bob Chilcott and Jonathan Willcocks. Now in its second year, it is held as a memorial to Sir David Willcocks, who was musical director of the Bach Choir for 38 years. The cash prize is provided by the David Willcocks Music Trust.
