Applications open for Cheltenham Festival Composer Academy

11:31, 6th February 2018

The Cheltenham Music Festival’s Composer Academy is now open for applications.

Twelve individuals will be selected for the intensive week-long residency, which will take place 8-15 July and costs £225.

They will receive coaching and hear their new works workshopped, performed and recorded by professional ensembles. Industry professionals will discuss craft, contemporary aesthetics and career development with them, and they will have the chance to attend a range of new music concerts.

Michael Zev Gordon, professor of composition at the University of Birmingham, will direct this year’s Academy. Other composers featured in the Academy include Kerry Andrews, Colin Riley, Michael Berkeley and Ken Hesketh.

Public showcases of works created during the week will take place on 14 and 15 July.

Applications close 30 March.
