Cheltenham Music Festival is calling for composers of all ages and musical ability to submit a fanfare for three trumpets, with a £250 cash prize for the winner.
The fanfare will be performed in celebration of the festival’s 75th birthday, by professional musicians on the Free Stage in Cheltenham’s Imperial Gardens and all over town on 5 July, as part of the opening event of the Free Stage programme.
Open to anyone who can compose and notate a simple score for three trumpets lasting between one to two minutes, entrants must submit a written score as both a PDF and an MP3 file by 5pm on Monday 1 July 2019. Further information on how to apply can be found via the Cheltenham Festivals website.
Judging the competition will be trumpet soloist and festival artistic director Alison Balsom (pictured). She commented: ‘We want to launch our Opening Weekend in style and what better way to get everyone’s attention than Cheltenham’s very own fanfare? I am looking forward to hearing all the entries and choosing a fanfare that will capture the excitement of our 75th anniversary. I hope lots of people of all ages will be inspired to enter.’
