Clive Barda receives 2016 Musicians’ Company fellowship10:53, 15th July 2016
He has photographed musicians, conductors and singers for more than 50 years.
His career was launched when an executive at EMI saw pictures Barda had taken of Daniel Barenboim and commissioned him to photograph Yehudi Menuhin.
According to Vladimir Ashkenazy, one of the secrets of Barda’s success ‘is his rare gift of being unnoticed, discreet and unobtrusive while doing his work,’ while baritone Thomas Allen attributes it to the photographer’s ‘interest in the music itself, the amount of research and preparation he puts in before taking on a job’.
He was made OBE in the 2016 New Year Honours.
Barda will be guest of honour at the Musicians’ Company’s special event at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama at 7pm on 18 July, at which he will discuss his work, approach and techniques, and will answer questions from the audience. He will be joined by colleagues and friends who will talk about their experience working together.
