The award-winning film composer Craig Armstrong OBE is to release a studio album as part of a major new deal with Decca Records.
Entitled Sun On You, the album is a collection of works for piano and strings. It is due to be released on 7 September following a European tour.
Armstrong’s film scores include Moulin Rouge!, Love Actually, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet, for which he earned a BAFTA and an Ivor Novello. He has also collaborated with a wide range of musicians, including Madonna, Massive Attack, Mogwai, and Luciano Pavarotti.
On signing to Decca, Armstrong said: ‘It is a great honour to be joining such a historic label and being a part of such a wide, varied, and interesting group of artists. I’m very much looking forward to working with the team on this new album and future releases.’
Armstrong will play the piano on all 16 tracks of Sun On You, with accompaniment by the Scottish Ensemble.
The album’s first track, ‘If I Should Fall’, has been made available on all digital platforms.
Armstrong will perform tracks from the album, alongside some of his best-known film music, as part of a tour which includes dates at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket on 25 May and London’s Union Chapel on 4 June.
