Florian Leonhard appointed to Royal College of Music role12:28, 30th January 2018
Florian Leonhard has been appointed as the Royal College of Music’s official expert and luthier for stringed instruments.
Leonhard’s workshop will look after the College’s collection of fine instruments, with Florian acting as expert luthier.
The maker, restorer, authenticator and expert on fine violins is the founder of the leading dealership and restoration workshop Florian Leonhard Fine Violins. He and his team have restored and supplied Stradivarius and Guarneri instruments for leading soloists including Leonidas Kavakos and Daniel Hope.
‘I’m excited to be looking after the Royal College of Music’s collection and restoring its instruments to their former glory,’ said Florian Leonhard.
‘I’ve been consulted by the College regularly over the years and that has happily created a relationship which continues to grow. I’ll be advising on instrument expertise and along with my team, working to maximise the sound quality of these “tools” for the future stars.’
Mark Messenger, head of strings at the Royal College of Music, said he was ‘delighted’ that string faculty students would have access to Leonhard’s ‘extraordinary knowledge, skill and love of fine instruments’.
