Further festival cancellations announced

4:05, 26th March 2020

Following increased restrictions put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19, festivals are continuing to announce cancellations.

The latest events to be called off include Scotland’s East Neuk Festival and Switzerland’s Verbier Festival, both announced today.

Originally due to take place from 1 – 5 July 2020, the East Neuk Festival will now hold its next event in 2021 from 29 June – 4 July. The festival’s ENF Retreat programme, which supports talented young chamber musicians with special projects through ENF Residencies and opportunities to perform with world-class musicians, has not been cancelled and will be rescheduled to later in the year. Additionally, a small number of projects from 2020’s festival will be postponed to take place at the 2021 festival.

The 2020 Verbier Festival, which would have been its 27th edition, was due to take place from 17 July – 2 August in Verbier, Switzerland. Founder and artistic director of the festival, Martin Engstroemexpressed his sadness at having to cancel this year’s event, commenting: ‘This cancellation will inevitably have financial implications on artists who will be without work this summer, businesses in Verbier and the region, and the temporary staff who join us each summer; we feel deeply for them all.’

Both festivals will offer the option of a full refund to ticket holders, however they ask patrons to consider donating some or all of their ticket cost back to the organisation in support of their staff and artists
