Guildhall School announces finalists for Gold Medal prize

Guildhall School of Music & Drama has announced the finalists for its prestigious Gold Medal prize.

The prize is awarded to singers and instruments in alternate years; this year is the turn of the singers.

The finalists are:

Ema Nikolovska (mezzo-soprano)

William Thomas (bass)

Samantha Clarke (soprano)

James Newby (baritone)

On 10 May, each finalist will perform a short programme accompanied by pianists Dylan Perez, Michael Pandya and Panaretos Kyriatzidis, followed by an aria with the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Richard Farnes. Tickets are available from the Barbican Box Office.

The Gold Medal was founded by Sir H Dixon Kimber in 1915. Previous winners include William Primrose, Jacqueline du Pré, Patricia Rozario and Tasmin Little.
