Help Musicians UK launches 2019 Postgraduate Awards2:35, 2nd January 2019
UK charity Help Musicians UK has opened applications for its 2019 Postgraduate Awards, launching a new open application process for music performance students looking to further their study at a UK conservatoire.
Until now the charity has run a nominations process for the annual awards, where select conservatoires and colleges have put forward students to audition for an award.
This year, HMUK is inviting applications from students from every background who demonstrate strong musical potential and ambition, and those who are in financial need. Applications will be shortlisted against the latter of these priorities.
Claire Gevaux, director of programme, said that the new application process was ‘a necessary first step towards creating a more diverse talent pool’. She continued: ‘Our awards have always been made through a competitive process, but we hope that with this revised focus, not just on performance and musicianship, we can further find and support those exceptionally talented students who are most in need and who have the most innovative career pathways.’
Previous winners of the Postgraduate Awards include Alison Balsom OBE, Dame Evelyn Glennie, Tasmin Little OBE and Clio Gould.
