Introducing Tangram: musicians curating new Chinese music3:55, 15th January 2019
Tangram is a new artist collective creating and curating new Chinese music.
Comprised of Daniel Shao (flute), Reylon Yount (yangqin), Beibei Wang (percussion), and Alex Ho (composition, piano), the group weaves a path between the worlds of European classical music and Chinese music, sharing a common desire to explore conceptions of the Chinese diaspora in different ways.
As winners of the Chinese Arts Now 2018 Artist Development Bursary, Tangram will perform a programme of new Chinese music at LSO St Luke’s on 25 January, part of the Chinese Arts Now Festival in London.
The programme follows on from Belle Chen’s Global Soundscapes set and features music by four Chinese composers exploring a theme of ‘diaspora’. It includes the UK premieres of works by Beibei Wang and Dong Zhou, as well as the world premiere of Alex Ho’s new piece for flute, percussion and yangqin.
