Joshua Bell renews contract with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields

12:08, 27th July 2017

Joshua Bell has renewed his contract as music director of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields for a further three years. He will now be in post until at least 2020.

Bell was appointed to the position in 2011. He is only the second person to hold the title, having succeeded Academy founder Sir Neville Marriner, who occupied the role from the orchestra’s formation in 1958.

The news accompanies the announcement of the Academy’s 2017/18 season. Highlights include the UK premiere of Edgar Meyer’s Overture for violin and orchestra, concerts with Bell and principal guest conductor Murray Perahia, and a US tour for the Academy’s Chamber Ensemble.

In addition to dates across Europe and the UK, the Academy will tour to the US and Asia, and will undertake its third residency at the Bravo! Vail Festival. Guest artists will include Daniel Hope, Brett Dean, Laura van der Heijden, and Lucas and Arthur Jussen.
