London Bach Society to be a Patron of Leipzig Bachfest 20203:00, 4th March 2020
The London Bach Society (LBS) is supporting two recitals by harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani and cellist Pieter Wispelwey as part of the Leipzig Bachfest 2020.
On Monday 14 June at 10.30pm, Esfahani will perform at the Bundesverwaltungsgericht with a programme of works by J C Bach, Pachelbel, Marchand, Frescobaldi, William Byrd and J S Bach. He is a regular performer at the LBS Bachfest and Leipzig Bachfest, and will be joined on Thursday 18 June by Wispelwey for their Leipzig debut as a duo. The recital will include Sonatas for Viola de Gamba and Obbligato Harpsichord BWV 1027-29, performed in the historic Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus).
The Leipzig Bach Festival’s artistic director Michael Maul says: ‘The Leipzig Bachfest 2020, in the company of the global Bach community, is set to be a celebration such as the historical Bach family used to hold: with music performed by the whole Bach family today as represented by guests from all over the world, including nearly 50 Bach choirs, who will be making the pilgrimage from every continent to Leipzig.’
LBS artistic director Margaret Steinitz comments: ‘It is a signal honour for the London Bach Society to be a patron of the 2020 Leipzig Bachfest. Our participation enables us to enhance our profile and ongoing friendship with Bach’s city, enjoy an appropriate marketing platform ahead of our own 75th anniversary in 2021, meet other Bach choirs and organisations, and celebrate the global Bach community of which we are a part.’
