LSO selects six young composers for its composer programmes9:37, 16th October 2019
The London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) has selected two composers for its LSO Jerwood Composer+ programme, and an additional four for its ongoing LSO Soundhub programme.
Des Oliver and Hollie Harding join the LSO Jerwood Composer+ programme in the 2019/20 LSO season. They will plan and deliver two chamber-scale concerts from conception to performance, receiving support and expertise from LSO staff as well as an external mentor. The experience and knowledge they will gain in putting on a successful new music performance will include learning about programming for specific audiences, planning and organising events, marketing, budgeting and public relations. The concerts will be part of the artistic programme at LSO St Luke’s.
The LSO Soundhub programme welcomes Clare Elton, Ryan Latimer, Ruaidhrí Mannion and Anselm McDonnell. Based at LSO St Luke’s, the programme provides professional support, resources and equipment in order to allow the composers to develop and showcase new work through exploration and collaboration. Soundhub’s ongoing development is led by the composers who take part and responds directly to their needs. There will be two Soundhub showcases on 15 February and 18 July 2020.
The Soundhub Community is also extended to a wider group of associates who benefit from access to Soundhub events, LSO rehearsals and concerts, and access to space and other resources. Alex Ho and Sun Keting both took part in 2018/19’s LSO Soundhub Phase I, and continue on for a further year developing new works for the February showcase.
