Ludlow English Song Weekend programme announced12:21, 29th November 2018
The Ludlow English Song Weekend will take place from 5-7 April 2019.
The theme for this year is ‘looking to the future’ – a reference to the festival’s new collaboration with the English National Opera and their ENO Harewood Artists Programme, which provides young artists with performance opportunities, coaching and support for 2-3 years. Seven singers enrolled on the scheme will perform during the weekend.
In addition, the weekend will feature guitarist Sean Shibe and violinist Michael Foyle; talks and discussions, film screenings and poetry; a masterclass from Susan Bullock; a discussion panel with author and broadcaster Dr Katy Hamilton; and a young composers’ workshop and showcase with composer Eleanor Alberga.
Artistic director and pianist Iain Burnside described Ludlow as ‘the perfect festival town: compact, historic, beautiful, friendly.’
He continued: ‘This year’s artists bring a new dimension to the weekend: we’re presenting a group of hugely gifted young singers, all bursting through into major careers.
‘Having BBC Radio 3 with us is the icing on the cake. We look forward to welcoming [them] for concerts, discussions and film – all set against the backdrop of the glorious Shropshire countryside.’
Booking opens 30 November. www.ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk
