4:42, 11th October 2017

His Majestys Sagbutts and Cornetts (HSMC) will mark its 35th birthday this year with a special concert on 27 October at St John’s Smith Square, London.

The ensemble will be joined by tenor Charles Daniels, baritone Ben Davies and organist William Whitehead for a programme showcasing early 17th-century Italian music by Giovanni Gabrieli, Giovanni Battista Grillo, Gioseffo Guami and Giovanni Picchi.

‘Fabulous sonority coupled to great variety will be on offer here, plus a unique celebration of the group’s 35 year history,’ said cornettist and founder member Jeremy West.

Founded in 1982, HMSC has performed in more than 30 countries. It has also  played for the ‘Two Ronnies’ on BBC TV, the BBC Proms, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Roger Norrington and at the Sydney Opera House.
