Make Music Day generates over 500 public performances12:34, 2nd July 2018
Make Music Day UK took place on 21 June, generating over 500 free public music performances across the country.
Events included a ‘dawn chorus’ at 4:15am from the Whitby Community Choir, folk music on the Bristol Temple Meads to Severn Beach railway, a brass band parade across London Bridge during evening rush-hour, music on the roof of Waverley Mall in Edinburgh, and an ABRSM piano relay at St Pancras.
The number of Make Music Day performances has tripled since the 2017 edition of the festival.
Barbara Eifler, chief executive of Making Music, one of the leading organisations behind the festival, said: ‘We are delighted that so many people across the UK have been inspired by the idea of Make Music Day to create amazing musical events. Can we make this day as big as it is in France where two thirds of the population turns out for it? Watch this space.’
