Matthew Coleridge continues ‘Requiem in a Day’ workshop series5:20, 7th January 2020
The next workshop in composer Matthew Coleridge’s ‘Requiem in a Day’ series, where singers are guided through his acclaimed composition ‘Requiem’, will take place on Saturday 8 February 2020 at Portsmouth Cathedral.
‘Requiem in a Day’ saw over 140 workshop singers perform the Requiem in Devon’s Buckfast Abbey in 2019, and now continues for 2020 in prestigious venues around the country. The next workshop in Portsmouth’s historic ‘Cathedral of the Sea’ will take place during the day, with a concert performance conducted by the composer to follow in the evening.
Taking place in the cathedral’s medieval Chapel of St Thomas, the morning session will involve learning the Requiem with Coleridge and David Price at the piano. After lunch, rehearsals move to the nave and the choir will be joined by cellist Sarah Gait, soprano Emily Hicks and organist Price.
The series will continue its journey throughout the UK with workshops to follow in London (28 March, St James, Sussex Gardens), Bristol (9 May, All Saints, Clifton), Worcestershire (20 June, Pershore Abbey), Dorchester-on-Thames (20 August, Dorchester Abbey) and Exeter (9 September, Exeter Cathedral).
