Five violinists under the age of 16 have been chosen to compete in the junior finals of the Menuhin Competition London 2016.

The finalists are:

  • Kevin Miura (13; USA/Japan)
  • Johan Dalene (15; Sweden)
  • Anne Luisa Kramb (15; Germany)
  • Yesong Sophie Lee (12; USA)
  • NaKyung Kang (12; South Korea)

Each violinist will perform as soloist in one of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons (accompanied by the Yehudi Menuhin School Orchestra) and will also play Òscar Colomina i Bosch’s new commission for solo violin Shpigl (inspired by Menuhin’s idea of life as a journey of search and transformation).

The jury, chaired by Pamela Frank, comprises former laureates Julia Fischer, Ray Chen, Tasmin Little, Ning Feng and Joji Hattori, as well as Menuhin’s son and pianist Jeremy Menuhin, Korean violinist Dong-Suk Kang and Verbier Festival director Martin Engstroem.

The junior finals will take place in the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music at 7.30pm on 15 April. The prize-winners will be announced at the end of the evening.
