Opéra de Nice announces 2019/20 season with new artist associate Lionel Bringuier11:01, 13th May 2019
Opéra de Nice has announced its season for 2019/20 with the appointment of a new artist associate, conductor Lionel Bringuier.
Bringuier will return to his home town of Nice to lead The Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice following his recent success with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Staatskaelle Dresden. His appointment and choice of programming has been made as part of an initiative to extend the Opéra de Nice’s international reach and bring in new partnerships.
Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis and Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region, said:
‘We invited Lionel to come and work in our city so that he can immerse himself in the potential of our orchestra, to work closely with them and go beyond the expectations of our audience. This collaboration is part of a general context of the revitalization of the Opera, showing openness to the international scene and encouraging the prospect of new partnerships and co-productions at the best national and international level.’
Over the course of the season Bringuier will share the stage with world-class international soloists such as pianist Hélène Grimaud, who will perform Ravel’s concerto en Sol Majeur and violinist Renaud Capuçon, presenting Brahms’s Violin Concerto in D major. In January, as part of a ‘100% made in Nice’ programme, he will be joined by his brother, pianist Nicolas Bringuier in a performance of Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
