ORA Singers announces new Christmas Gift initiative11:43, 8th October 2019
Vocal ensemble ORA Singers has announced a special new initiative offering 12 composers the chance to have their works recorded for free this Christmas.
The new initiative, Christmas Gift, is open to UK-based composers of any age and aims to help support its chosen composers in developing their careers, offering them the chance to work with the ensemble and its director Suzi Digby OBE before receiving a professional recording of their pieces.
Applicants are invited to submit an a cappella Christmas work under five minutes in length alongside their biographies by 18 November 2019 in order to be considered for the project. With no age restriction or entry fee, the ensemble is hoping to support a broad range of composers with the recording opportunity, whether it be helping with a college application, prospective commission or portfolio enhancement.
Suzi Digby comments: ‘We see the ORA Singers’ Christmas Gift as a seasonal way to show our continued support of composers in the UK. We are constantly contacted by superb composers and are aware of the burgeoning talent of choral composition in this country. By recording 12 pieces we hope to help at least some of these composers share and promote their works on a wider stage.’
ORA Singers has commissioned over 45 new works in the last four years, aiming toward 100 new choral works by 100 living composers within ten years. The new Christmas Gift initiative follows the launch of the ensemble’s first Composer Competition and educational website, Composer Create, last year.
